Time to become an authorpreneur.
Marketing and promoting your new story is just as vital as ensuring that it is free from grammatical errors and that it has an attractive cover. You may well have a fantastic product, but how will people know about it? This is just one of the key questions that every businessperson asks themselves and it is just as important for you as an independent author to answer.
Fortunately, thanks to the technological age we live in, there are a so many different ways you can let people know about your work. Social media is just one of the avenues open for you to explore, and using it is more straightforward than you might expect. Start by connecting with fellow independent authors and readers, as well using some promotional posts about your story. They, in turn, may well share your story within their own network. Twitter and Facebook move fast though so it's crucial that you keep up with regular updates.
Social media often goes hand-in-hand with a blog. Readers are always curious about the person behind the story and how your current work is coming along. Some readers may well have writing aspirations of their own and could look to you for advice. An article on your own writing experience could be just what they need!
One of the perks of being a self-published author is that you have complete control over your promotion and what you believe will work best for you. You can choose what to write about on your blog, when you want to post to social media, even what your website should look like. Finding the best combination for successful promotion can be a case of trial and error, however you have plenty of time to experiment.
There is another technique that every successful authorpreneur needs; a strong mindset. The actual process of self-publishing is relatively easy; the challenge is reacting to the difficult periods. Remember, your novel may not be for everyone, and that is perfectly natural. Making the decision to self-publish is a brave one, and you deserve to be commended for doing so. Always keep that in mind; if you have the desire and heart to succeed, there is no reason why you can't make it as an independent author.
When you encounter these periods, take a step back and look at what you are currently doing. Are you publishing your work at the right time? Could you use different hashtags? What can you do a little differently?
Though there are several important skills that you as an independent author should learn, believing in your work and yourself, as well as having strong determination are probably the most important characteristics you can have. Don't be worried about asking for advice either; there is a strong community of authors out there who may well be in the same situation as you.
The road to becoming an author is often a long one, but it is incredibly exciting at the same time, and the reward of seeing your story in all its glory makes it all worth it in the end. Never give up on your writing dream!
